a very potter summer

Let’s make a little magic of our own this summer as we transform Lamplighter into Hogwallers, the American branch campus of Hogwarts. No Slytherin or Gryffindor here (we get to make our own house names). We’ll master the arts of spell casting and play an impromptu game of street level Quidditch. We might even sample a few Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and compete in the Tri Wizard Tournament. Brush up on your Potter trivia and prepare for a wizard duel or two!

Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects and use special pieces to create your own unique designs. Projects are rotated seasonally to ensure that both new and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system.

This exciting class will help your athlete be a master of the field or the court. Experience all kinds of sports, skills, techniques, ball handling, dribbling, shooting, sportsmanship, teamwork and more! Classic sports like soccer and basketball to stick sports such as hockey and lacrosse. Sharpen skills, rules of the game, teamwork and overall endurance to keep your athlete in the game! Build confidence with an introduction to competition in a positive atmosphere. Register for this awesome PowerKids experience and watch their confidence and self esteem explode!

Do you want to step up your game? Join Coach Gerald on the court! Learn the proper way to dribble, pass, and shoot through various drills while applying footwork techniques that are sure to improve your game. Strengthening character and teamwork skills will be emphasized. All abilities are welcomed.

Coach Gerald will introduce the game of basketball through various and fun drills so that even the youngest players can establish a strong foundation. Participants will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot while learning the rules and regulations of the game. Footwork techniques will be introduced as participants build character. No prior experience necessary!

Dancing, Acting, Singing: Broadway! Each week we’ll learn and practice the fundamentals of dance, acting, and voice technique to develop a foundation of skills. We’ll then put it all together to recreate our favorite Broadway songs and dances as an ensemble. Parents are invited to the final class meeting to see what we’ve learned.

Have fun with chemistry at an exciting camp! Make a crystal garden, synthesize your own slime, learn about our solar system by making a comet with everyday items, and have a shocking time with a Van de Graaff generator by experiencing lightning up close!

If you love Shark Tank, this empowering program is for you! Join other intrepid students and develop a business plan for your own business idea. You will learn to take risks and persevere, while making business-like decisions about strategy, marketing, and finance. Optional activities include building a website and designing business cards. Students build confidence "learning by doing" and make their pitch presentations on the last day!

chess tactics, development, and more!

Welcome to Intermediate Chess, where we start to develop our tactical skills and shift focus on more advanced topics, such as discovered attacks, checkmate patterns, and more! Students will start preparing for tournaments, they will learn to read and record a game with notation. They will learn some basic tactics which help students find threats, defensive moves and checkmates in one move. *Note: Students are expected to know how to castle and to play a full game with checkmate to qualify.

Throughout this camp we will be embarking on a culinary adventure filled with flavor, curiosity, and of course, fun! Our travels will take us across the continents in a whirlwind of tasty treats, uncommon delicacies, and environmental stewardship - because knowing where our food comes from is just as important as knowing how to cook it. Every day we will be going chef-to-chef/country-to-country to see which dish can take the win in. Try your hand as a real Mad Scientist in this whirlwind program on how a lab works! Students learn how to manipulate laboratory equipment at their personal lab bench, create a tiny world of atoms with their very own set of Atomic Coins, create slime using the Mad Science Recipe, and much, much more! This class offers a fun, interactive, and age-appropriate introduction to chemistry. CHEMWORKS is sure to delight and excite while fostering a life-long love of science!

Imagination, creativity, and physical activity collide! Have fun creating new games and strategizing with your friends! Obstacles and ropes, along with physical and mental challenges, will inspire "out of the box" thinking and movement. We will play past games that have been created by former students, such as "Treasure Hunter" and "Dodge It" using foam frisbees.

debate club

Students will learn the art of persuasion and help select debate topics they find interesting. In a public forum debate format, students work in groups and practice their debating skills in a supportive environment, including developing arguments, issuing rebuttals, providing examples, rebuilding their case, and summarizing points of view. Young debaters learn to think on their feet and enhance their public-speaking skills, gaining self confidence in the process.

Keeping children safe on the internet is a concern for many parents. In this course, students will be given the tools and information to make sure they are safe as they navigate the internet and learn how to become good digital citizens through fun and engaging content and activities.

Unleash the music producer within at "Digital Groove," the ultimate music production camp for kids! Get ready to dive into the world of beats, rhythms, and electronic sounds as campers embark on a journey to create their own musical masterpieces using iPads. Our cutting-edge camp combines technology and creativity, providing hands-on experience in music production. From composing original tunes to mixing and mastering, students will develop their unique sound palette. Students will not only learn the ins and outs of music software but also collaborate with peers to compose, remix, and produce their original tracks. Join Digital Groove for a week of innovation, collaboration, and the thrill of producing music that resonates in the digital age.

Let's use our imaginations to take us to destinations near and far! This is a dramatic play class that supports the artist in each child. We'll use beloved childhood tales to encourage expression and interaction that feel natural and fun to each child. Children will learn about facial expression, body language, finding their voice and how to use it all to portray their own unique interpretations.

Create a new world or have fun with an existing one! Hold the world premiere performance of your original show on Friday! Feed your inner playwright and your imagination!

finance club

Learn how to manage your money in this program promoting essential life skills! Set your financial goals, develop a budget from scratch, shop for a credit card, and calculate the monthly cost of your dream car. Students also learn about mortgages, FICO scores, taxes and the dangers of piling up debt. Through simulations and hands-on activities, participants gain confidence to explore financial decisions they will have to make in the future.

Looking for a fun and exciting way to get your child up and moving? Look no further than Kidokinetics FlagPlay program! With a variety of games utilizing flag belts, children will be running, throwing, catching, and flag-pulling their way to victory while developing important gross and fine motor skills. Our focus on speed, agility, coordination, balance, accuracy, and cardiovascular endurance will keep your child active and engaged in a team-oriented environment. From flag football to capture the flag, our program introduces a range of games that are designed to put the fun first while keeping participants challenged and excited while building confidence.

It’s time to have some fun exploring nature, forest animals, the night sky, rivers, fishing, smores and more! Our campout will be full of indoor and outdoor play, music, books, snacks and art! Enrollment in FunCamp is limited to current or incoming Lamplighter students.

Interested in drawing, art, or design? In this class, you’ll learn how to use your doodling skills for real, by doing design projects for local nonprofits or small businesses. You will learn how to make professional posters and art that people want to pay for, and you’ll ultimately design posters and ads for real organizations with good causes. Our students' work has been used in ads and online Instagram posts by the Special Olympics, Martha's Kitchen, and local shelters.

Dive into a world of GREEN wonders at Lamplighter during the one season students never get to explore at school: SUMMER! Join us for a week long adventure filled with hands-on activities exploring plants, animals, botany, gardening and the many nature areas (ecosystems) at Lamplighter, including the CREEK! Students will help Lamplighter science teachers, Mrs. Orozco and Mrs. Roberts, refresh the gardens for the upcoming school year including making new garden signs hand-painted by your student. All students will design and build their own miniature gardens, called TERRARIUMS, to bring a touch of nature into their homes after this fun week exploring the magic of nature!

Introducing "Harmony & Handiwork," the perfect camp for our youngest music enthusiasts! Little ones will delight in the joy of making music through interactive games, sing-alongs, and age-appropriate instruments. But that's not all – the fun extends to the craft corner, where budding artists will unleash their imaginations, creating musical masterpieces and colorful crafts. Harmony and Handiwork is not just a camp; it's a magical blend of musical notes and creative strokes, creating memories that will echo in the hearts of your young campers!

This high-energy dance form uses the latest age-appropriate hip hop and pop music coupled with dance steps influenced by some of today's finest dance choreographers. A style that is incessantly changing, hip hop incorporates poppin', lockin', and body isolations. Students will learn trendy and old school styles, always emphasizing each dancer finding their own individual swagger and style. Hip hop is a fun, high-energy way to express oneself in a big way!

Hola Amigo! Join us in a FUN, interactive, and enriching environment for children to learn and become confident Spanish speakers. Every class begins with our mascot, Paulina Parrot, who greets the kids and reveals the emphasis. Our class emphasis changes and incorporates age-appropriate songs, dance, crafts, games, and conversation to ensure every child remains engaged throughout the lesson. Each class will provide a review of the previous lessons to ensure the children retain their knowledge and continue to build confidence and vocabulary.

If you like to make things up on the spot, want to get better at making things up on the spot, or want to learn how to make things up on the spot, this camp is for you. Through a series of games and exercises, we’ll learn how all those amazing people on Whose Line Is It Anyway and Saturday Night Live create the funny out of nothing. We’ll also have a special Improv Olympics performance at the end of the week.

Are you brand new to chess? Or simply in need of a refresher course? Then this is the level for you! Our beginner classes are a great foundation for students of any age new to the world of chess. We start from the very basics - how the pieces move, what each piece is worth, and the basics of a good opening. From there, we practice over-the-board play to ensure every student is confident enough to move on to the next level! 

Jr. game and animation development

Students will create fun games and animations as they learn computational thinking. Students’ creativity will be on display through their project creation, interactive stories, games and activities. This is an early learning coding class using block programming.

With so much awesome Star Wars content out there, it’s time to feed our inner Jedi! We provide the lightsaber; you master The Force! Draw the newest aliens for the Senate or the Mos Eisley cantina! We have X, Y, A, and B Wings, but can you design ships for all the other letters of the alphabet? Fly the Death Star trench in a fighter of your own design! Make the Kessel Run! Test your Star Wars Trivia!

Children feel the thrill of a carnival as they build a spinning swing ride! They learn about the forces and mechanical engineering concepts behind some of their favorite amusement park rides. Then, they improve and test their designs to create an even wilder ride. Finally, they assemble, test and take home their very own Viking Ship Ride model!

Build a different LEGO project, inspired by an engineering theme, in each class. Explore engineering fields including mechanical, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bioengineering. Use critical thinking, cooperation, and creative problem-solving to test and improve creations. Experience extended learning with a take home toy to reinforce each concept.

Make your LEGOs come to life! Bring in your favorite action figures or LEGOs and create a short film with your friends. Whether you want to recreate a scene from Star Wars or design a world of your own, this class brings your dreams to the screen. Students will need to bring in LEGOs and/or action figures from home, but all other equipment is provided. Student-created films will be available on a password-protected website to share with friends and family. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Kidokinetics Rollerblading, sponsored by Skate in School, creates a fun and healthy environment for young children. Rollerblading boosts youth fitness and teaches a life-long physical activity. Your child will develop cardiovascular endurance, balance, and coordination while having fun and building confidence. All equipment, including skates, knee/elbow guards and safety helmets is included. Perfect for entry level girls and boys!

Are you ready to innovate? Get your creative juices flowing in this project-based program where you will identify the need for an invention, think on your feet, and create real structures and solutions. Students also learn about famous inventors and internalize how recent innovations improve our lives.

Make your first video game!

Our classic game design camp reimagined to include even more of what you love! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that gives you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, level design, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun! Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Mystical adventures awaits as you dive into a magical world with all your favorite mythical creatures. We will read, create, and explore lives of mermaids, unicorns and fairies.

Customize your own Minecraft world and mod the classic game in this one-of-a-kind class. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods. Students will create a wide variety of new elements, gameplay mechanics, and world-generating mods to change the way you play Minecraft. Projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students must have the Java version of Minecraft to take this class. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

This innovative foundation on financial literacy also serves as a practical math lab where students learn and reinforce computational skills, while developing a mindset for healthy financial habits. From playing money math games to learning about budgeting through engaging activities, students have fun while they enhance their “real life” math skills!

Let's sell lemonade! Young campers become "lemonade entrepreneurs"  and learn how to make yummy lemonade and earn money selling it! From designing marketing flyers to estimating profits to experimenting with recipes, campers have fun all week while developing business savvy. As an optional showcase event, campers launch the lemonade stand on Friday to raise money for a charity they select!

Earn, save, spend, donate! Let's learn about money! This innovative program provides a solid foundation on financial literacy for kids in a fun setting. Games and hands-on activities help students internalize key concepts (like money, budgeting and saving) in an engaging and supportive environment fostering teamwork. Students use their arts & crafts skills to make their own piggy banks!

We’re on a mission to explore the atmosphere on Earth—and beyond. Understand the solar system and the various planetary bodies there. Learn how astronauts travel to space, live, and work there. Design, build, and launch a rocket during this very exciting program.

Blast-off on knowledge of flight! This camp is an exciting study on rockets. Campers build their own rockets and planes, experiment with propulsion systems, launch and recover rockets! Each day, campers create amazing things to take home.

Score a touchdown with your kids this season! Want your kids to learn football fundamentals and teamwork without the worry of tackling? NFL FLAG Football, brought to you by Kidokinetics, is the perfect solution. Our coaches use a curriculum designed by NFL professionals to build the skills needed for success on and off the field, all while emphasizing sportsmanship and confidence-building. Your child will gain agility, speed, coordination, strength, and accuracy while having fun with their peers. NFL FLAG Football is the ideal way to introduce your children to a new sport or further develop their existing skills.

We’ll learn about composition, lighting, and other core strategies that allow professionals to take incredible photos. We’ll also get to take pictures of campus, explore nature, and ultimately create scrapbook-worthy camp memories!

Our program provides a fun and engaging introduction to both sports and creates a confidence building experience for young boys and girls. Welcome to Pitch Perfect Voice Camp, where the magic of music comes alive for budding talents! Our singing camp is an enchanting experience designed to immerse young vocalists in a world of pitch-perfect harmonies and song. Set against a choir of joyous laughter and harmonious tunes, campers explore the art of singing with an expert instructor. Campers are led through exciting vocal exercises, group performances, and games that enhance their singing skills and foster a deep appreciation for music. From mastering the highs and lows to discovering the secrets of harmonization, our camp fosters a love for music in a playful and supportive environment. Join us at this camp, where every voice finds its perfect pitch!

Pokémon wow  

If you love Pokémon but wish the monsters you thought up in your imagination could be real Pokémon cards, then this is the class for you! Leave your old decks at home because we’re designing our own! Battle with your own set of special edition Lamplighter Pokémon cards that you and your friends will design! We’ll also get to watch some classic Poke-clips from our favorite cartoon, try to FINALLY get Pikachu back in his Poke-ball, and invent new ways to catch them all! Plus, there will be a big tournament on Friday to decide this year’s Pokémon master!

Pokémon masters: designers and 3d makers reunite!

Calling all PokéMasters who want to be the designers of the future! Use your Pokémon imagination and bring your ideas to life. Begin by creating your own digital Pokémon-style custom-playing card game. Progress onto designing action figures, jewelry, and toys in professional-level modeling software. Learn how to prepare a model for 3D printing and create a design portfolio to showcase your work. No prior experience is necessary and 3D designs will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

reading comes alive with yoga

In this class, we will read large picture books with animals and nature illustrations while learning yoga poses. Each class will begin with different breathing techniques for focus. We'll play some yoga games for fun learning too. Student will choose from a selection of fabric that they will use to make personal lavender eye pillows for our relaxation time at the end of class. 

robotics and physics with legos - level 1

The Stemtree robotics program uses the wonder and genius of robots to inspire students to create, problem solve, and think out of the box! After their builds are complete, students add coding elements to make their creations come to life! Throughout the course of the week, students will rotate between mini-units in two different LEGO® Education sets – SPIKE Essential and BricQ Essential – to learn a variety of engineering and building concepts in themes including Great Adventures, the Physics of Sports, and Amazing Amusement Park!

This camp will expose students to a couple different robotics kits at different levels. Students will begin by doing some straightforward builds and learning how to use technology to bring their creations to life. Then, they’ll learn how to use their builds to explore physics and math concepts. For instance, we will build a catapult, code it to throw a pom pom, and do several trials calculating which angle we have to set the catapult arm at in order to throw it furthest.  This camp is a great mix of tactile building fun, critical thinking, academic enrichment, and friendly competition between peers!

Get ready to score big! Join us for Run the Bases, where kids will learn the essentials of running bases while having fun playing kickball, T-ball, and baseball. Our program not only teaches the fundamentals of these sports, but also helps children develop cardiovascular endurance and teamwork skills in a supportive and exciting environment. Imagine the sense of accomplishment and exhilaration as your child races across home plate with confidence and skill. Run the Bases gives your child an unforgettable experience that sets them up for success both on and off the field!

Would you like to engage in a game of scooter kick ball? This is the camp for you! Play some of the silliest and sappiest games this side of The Wide World of Sports! Every Friday, we’ll invent our own games for a chance to be enshrined in the Silly Sappy Super Sports Book for next summer’s games!

Splash into Reading & Math Camp will be a great way to get your child ready to enter Kindergarten with more confidence by diving into the Big 5 Pond! The program will include explicit phonemic awareness instruction, systematic, explicit phonics, vocabulary instruction, and reading comprehension work. The Big 5 will be taught in a fun, hands on experience with lots of games and small group interaction. The students will also immerse themselves in numbers, sequencing ,patterns and exploration of numbers everywhere!

Looking for a fun way for your child to stay active? SportsPlay by Kidokinetics is for you! Our programs are designed to introduce kids to a variety of sports and activities, helping them build essential skills while having a blast. With options like golf, tennis, basketball, baseball, football, hockey, and more, there's something for every interest. Each week features a warm up, an introduction to a new sport or activity, free play, cool down and an age appropriate anatomy and physiology lesson. Not only is SportsPlay a great way for kids to have fun and stay active, it also promotes healthy habits and positive socialization!

Students will explore some basic elements of cryptography and secrecy. The purpose of the camp is to give students a crash course on how to keep data confidential and safe and learn basic spy skills.

Introducing an exciting Broadway- themed class that puts fitness and the magic of performance center stage. Theater meets dance in this course designed to uncover everyone’s star potential. Participants will develop strength, flexibility, and stamina, as well as creativity and personal expression.

Apply real- world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects. Enjoy storytime classics as well as exciting, new books while exploring fun STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) projects related to each story. Students will love learning engineering principles with Rosie Revere Engineer, discovering insect life cycles with the Very Hungry Caterpillar, getting microscopic with math in What’s Smaller than a Pygmy Shrew?, and more!

Focus on self-discovery through performance while donning the personas of Disney characters and Marvel and DC legends! Kids imagine their way into new worlds while learning how to talk, sing, and dance like a true Superhero and/or Princess. Students will create props and perform a short routine for family and friends at the end of the week!

Up...up...and away with an awesome hero (and villain) experience! We'll get to doodle our way through heroes from the late 1930s to today, spend a day with everybody's favorite bad guys, and wrap up the week creating heroes (or villains) of our own! Students will get to keep a sketchbook of all their art during the course of the week and enjoy some vintage and modern hero cartoons as well!

This exciting class will help your athlete be a master of the field or the court! Experience all kinds of sports, skills, techniques, ball handling, dribbling, shooting, sportsmanship, teamwork and more! unconventional art extravaganza     

Students will get to explore a wide variety of unconventional mediums and unusual projects. From painting with squeegees, to clear canvases, pressing flowers, quilled paper, to collaging with recyclables and found objects, students will have the opportunity to create several personalized projects based on their interests. Each project will be entirely their own. With help choosing materials, and guidance through the art process, students will be assisted in making their imagination a reality.

Kidokinetics USA Archery Fundamentals program is designed for elementary children looking to learn the basics of this fantastic Olympic sport! Archery will give your child the opportunity to develop important skills such as focus, concentration, coordination, balance, strength, stability and accuracy. As an official partner of USA Archery, our camps utilize their nationally recognized curriculum. Lead coaches are certified by USA Archery for safety and quality of curriculum presentation. Your child will have fun with games and challenges teaching them to thrive on and off the range!

In this class, we’ll be learning about physics and the natural world through fun, easy science experiments in chemistry and physics. We’ll learn about states of matter, the animal and plant kingdoms, and how things we interact with in our everyday lives really work. This is the perfect club if you love science or engineering or just want to get a little messy in after school.

The world-famous Who Kids Of Lamplighter continue their operations this summer with favorite episodes, Classic and New, including the new 15th Doctor! We’ll write new content for our Twitter feed (@WhoKidsLL) including episode reviews, fan art, Daleks Telling Jokes and more!

We'll have fun learning poses with yoga stories, playing lots of games, creating new poses, keeping a journal, and making breathlets! Students will learn several breathing techniques, and will choose fabric for lavender eye pillows to use for our relaxation at end of each class. They'll bring them home at the end of camp!

young coders     

Every child can code! Develop your skills as a young coder by exploring block coding, JavaScript, and Python concepts while making your own playable mini-games. This introductory coding course is designed to get elementary-aged students excited about technology through a series of hands-on and engaging learning challenges. Student-created games will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Find your voice and leave your mark on the world! Whether you are six or sixteen, it’s time to start a career as the next YouTube star. Explore the variety of content and personalities that exist on YouTube and how to find your own niche. Learn the Dos and Don’ts of the platform and how to practice good digital citizenship. Develop your on-camera presence, your own channel branding, and professional editing skills. Take home a plan for launching your own channel with the content created in class! Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
