Art

Lamplighter values students’ creative expression and provides a program that inspires children to create and appreciate the visual arts. An open-ended approach places emphasis on exploration, individual experiences, and self-expression. The development of fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and technical skills relevant to artistic endeavors are inherent to the program. Over the year, children work in a variety of media, including collage, paint, sculpture, weaving, and printing. Students also learn about famous artists and paintings, and create their own pieces in specific styles. Artist-in-Residence programs inspire students by showing that art is not just found in museums, but is created and celebrated by living people today. Student art is displayed throughout the school and celebrated for its unique qualities.
