Community Outreach

The social-emotional component of the curriculum at the Lamplighter School goes beyond teaching children to be friendly and respect others.

At Lamplighter, students realize they are an integral part of an interconnected community. The Lamplighter Parents’ Association organizes outreach to areas of our community in need in a wide variety of ways. The Green Team reminds students about the responsibilities of consumption and maintaining a clean campus through celebration and song, as well as emphasizing composting and recycling efforts. Every year, third and fourth graders make lunches for Family Gateway, a nonprofit organization that provides supportive services to children and families affected by homelessness. The School also organizes shoe, coat, and even Halloween costume drives to foster a spirit of giving in our community. Over the course of their time at Lamplighter, students come to realize that through their own actions, giving to those in need strengthens the greater community.

Lamplighter also connects with the community through our United to Learn partnership. United to Learn is a coalition of public elementary schools, private institutions, and engaged community members who help build relationships across the Dallas community to share resources and programming. Our partnership with United to Learn has connected students at Lamplighter with peers at nearby Dallas Independent School District (DISD) schools in a variety of ways including a pen pal program, children’s author visits, art projects, special field trips, and Saturday Science Club. In addition, this partnership has provided Lamplighter faculty members with networking and professional development opportunities to learn from and collaborative with teachers from area DISD schools.
