What an exciting day for our Lamplighter Whovians! Students in the “Who is Dr. Who?” NightLight after school enrichment class had a unique opportunity this week to meet a prominent television screenwriter. A group of 24 first through fourth grade students gathered to Skype with British screenwriter Peter McTighe of Cardith, England. McTighe is the writer of the Doctor Who episode, “Kerblam!”, part of the eleventh series of the long-running British science fiction television program.
During the Skype session, McTighe took the time to answer an array of questions posed by all Lamplighter students involved in the NightLight class. Questions ranged from the inspiration behind the episode ideas, to more specific details about the “Kerblam!” episode involving bubble wrap! At the conclusion of the session, McTighe made recommendations to students about which episodes to watch over the holidays, highlighting his favorite Doctor Who episode for each of the 13 doctors in the series’ history.
“Who is Dr. Who?” is a weekly after school enrichment class taught by Lamplighter Drama Teacher Jeff Peck. Students gather to review episodes of the British television program, Doctor Who, and write entries into an ever-growing Lamplighter episode guide. Over the years, the Lamplighter “Whovians” have attended Doctor Who fan expo events, and successfully published an article in the official Doctor Who fan club magazine, The Celestial Toyroom.
