Each year, fourth grade Seniors manage the Lamplighter Layers corporation, a chicken-raising and egg-selling business established at the School in 1970. In recent years, student stockholders have voted to share a portion of their dividends with local, national, or worldwide charities at the conclusion of the fiscal year.
Throughout the school year, the Class of 2019 successfully managed the Lamplighter Layers corporation by collecting 5,529 eggs and raising a total of $2,137.35 by selling eggs at carpool each Friday. During the ceremonial “handover” meeting at the end of the school year, student leaders announced that proceeds from the 2018-2019 year would be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the SPCA of Texas. Following the check presentation to these organizations, members of the Class of 2020 were presented with a plant as a gesture of goodwill as the new class assumes management of the corporation.
