American Bandstand was a music performance and dance television program that aired from 1952 to 1989. The program began in 1952 as "Bandstand," a local Philadelphia telecast, then launched nationally as "American Bandstand" in 1957 with host Dick Clark. The show featured teenagers dancing to Top 40 music introduced by Clark, as well as popular musical acts lip-syncing their latest singles.
