Perot Museum of Nature Science
The Lamplighter School’s partnership with the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is now six years strong. Lamplighter employs a dedicated full-time Perot Museum liaison who works with our faculty to build science curriculum and offer hands-on experiences for the children at the Museum. In addition, Lamplighter extended its partnership with Perot to offer after school enrichment classes as well as summer camp sessions on site at Lamplighter. The most recent class offering includes an archaeology class, taught by Becca Peixotto, Ph.D. Dr. Peixotto now serves as Director and Research Scientist of the Center for the Exploration of the Human Journey at the Perot Museum. Prior to joining the Perot, she was part of Dr. Lee Berger’s team of “underground astronauts” in the excavation of fossils in South Africa that led to the discovery of Homo naledi, an ancient human relative. Using VR technology, students in this class get to experience cave exploration, right on the Lamplighter campus!
