Erik Jonsson Media Center

The Erik Jonsson Media Center is an extension of the classroom and functions as the school's information center. It supports and enriches the curriculum through a variety of well-organized resources and tools that reflect the diverse needs of the community. There are 34,344 items in the collection. These materials are available to all students, parents, faculty, and administration within the school community. Each student is assisted in selecting, evaluating, and using the information appropriately and effectively. The Media Center Coordinator collaborates with faculty to provide instruction, learning strategies, and practices that use the essential learning skills needed in the 21st century.

Erik Jonsson Media Center hours are 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. during school days.

Media Center Coordinator

Lamplighter Media Center Coordinator, Patricia Vermillion, will speak at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference on April 3, 2018 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.  She will speak on the topic of "What's New with Texas Picture Book and Upper Elementary Authors and Illustrators." Mrs. Vermillion is a published author of two children's books: Texas Chili? Oh My! and Hound Dawg.

Mrs. Vermillion co-wrote an article with retired Lamplighter teacher Marty Melton that was published in Teacher Librarian magazine. The article is titled “Tips and Tactics: Library-Classroom Collaboration Stimulates Reading, Teaches So Much More” and provides an overview of a project they had done for several years with fourth graders at the School. The article features the details of the collaboration, including the addition of how students videotape each other and then assign each book talk video a QR code, so parents and students throughout the Lamplighter community can view the book talk on iPads when they visit the School’s Media Center. The magazine’s publisher, Edward Kurdyla, Jr., remarked, “Because the article provides models and activities to be implemented, I think the way you structured the booktalks, although still rather simple, is terrific and really teaches so many things on so many levels.” Read the article.
