2018-2019 Volunteer Opportunities

Below is a preview of volunteer opportunities. Volunteer opportunities and upcoming events are also announced through the school’s electronic newsletter “eNews” that you will receive weekly. Opportunities throughout the year:

Art Project Assistance

Help Mrs. O’Krent, The Lamplighter School's Art Teacher, prepare art projects for students throughout the year.

Community Outreach

Collect donations at carpool from parents as children are dropped off. Help with one or several collections.

Cultural Awareness

Help prepare displays and presentations about different areas of the world.

Dads' Programs

Help with Doughnuts with Dads, Popcicles with Pops, Carnival and other activities throughout the year.

Faculty & Staff Conference Breakfasts

Purchase and drop-off food for the faculty and staff before parent conferences. Provide food for one or several conferences.

Faculty & Staff Snack Jars

Purchase and fill snack jars upstairs for the faculty and staff. Provide snacks for one or several weeks.

Faculty & Staff Monthly Meetings

Purchase and drop-off food/drinks/supplies for meetings. Provide snacks for one or several weeks.

Friday Lunch

Join a team to serve lunch to children in classrooms. Teams work about one Friday/month.

Gardening

Help Mrs. Cauley, The Lamplighter School's environmental science teacher, prepare gardens and outdoor areas for interactive classes for pre-K through 4th grade.

Last Minute Volunteers (As Needed)

Provide extra help for various activities during the year. You can choose when to participate as you receive requests.

The Media Center

Check books in and out for students, shelve books, and help students find books. Choose as many shifts as you wish.

Office Volunteer

Help with office activities and school mailings.

PALS Tours

Assist the Office of Admissions and Placement with tours of the school for prospective Lamplighter parents.

Spirit Store

Sell Spirit Store items during parent events.

Special Opportunities (Fall)

Carnival: The Carnival is run by the Lamplighter Parent Association. Every family is required to volunteer for one Carnival shift. More information about shift options will be available late summer.

Carnival Bake Sale: Provide baked goods to sell at the Carnival.

Media Center Open House: Help set-up, be a guide or distribute books for this event where books and electronic books are donated to the Media Center in honor of teachers and children.

Special Opportunities (Spring)

Auction Committee: Help in one of the many areas before or after the Auction (e.g. class baskets, vendor solicitation, decorations, set-up, etc.)

Faculty/Staff – Valentine’s Day: Set-up and assist with special activities during the day

Grandest Friends’ Day: Help on the day of the event with activities, including check-in, greeting, or guiding grandparents to the classrooms

International Night: Host a country table, help plan, or assist with set-up for this event
